Lifeline is one of the most widely known crisis support services in Australia, but many people are unsure exactly what it offers beyond a phone number. At its core, Lifeline provides confidential crisis support to anyone experiencing emotional distress, at any hour of the day or night.

Trained crisis supporters listen without judgement and help callers work through whatever is happening for them, whether that is a sudden crisis or a slower building difficulty. Lifeline also offers text and online chat options for people who prefer not to speak on the phone. This applies just as much on an ordinary day as during an obvious crisis.

Lifeline can be reached by phone on 13 11 14, any hour of the day, every day of the year, for anyone who needs to talk something through. None of this requires getting everything right on the first attempt. Small, imperfect steps still count as genuine progress.
