The Suicide Call Back Service is a free, nationwide counselling service specifically for people affected by suicide, whether they are experiencing suicidal thoughts themselves or supporting someone else who is. It is fair to expect this to feel uncomfortable at first, and that discomfort tends to ease.

Unlike a single crisis call, this service also offers ongoing telephone and online counselling sessions, allowing people to build a relationship with a counsellor over several conversations rather than starting fresh each time. It is available to callers of any age. This is a normal part of navigating a difficult period, not a sign that something has gone wrong.

The Suicide Call Back Service can be reached on 1300 659 467, at any hour, and Lifeline is also available around the clock on 13 11 14. Many people wish they had started this conversation sooner, once they finally did. This matters even when there is no immediate or visible change to point to.
