Humour as a Companion Through Hard Times
Launch library · evergreen read

Humour can seem out of place during genuinely difficult times, yet for many people it remains a quiet companion throughout, offering brief relief without denying the seriousness of what is happening underneath. There is no need to have everything figured out before taking this step.
A shared laugh with a friend, or simply allowing yourself to find something genuinely funny, does not mean a difficulty is being minimised. It can instead be a sign that a person is still able to access moments of lightness alongside real struggle. Nobody expects a perfect explanation, only a willingness to be honest.
If things feel too heavy for humour to reach right now, support is available. Beyond Blue is available on 1300 22 4636, and Lifeline can be reached at any hour on 13 11 14. Whatever the circumstances, this kind of care tends to matter more than it seems in the moment.
