Creative activities, drawing, music, writing, cooking, offer a way of expressing what can be hard to put directly into words. For many people, returning to a creative outlet during a hard time can feel like reconnecting with a part of themselves that difficulty had temporarily obscured. It is worth being patient with yourself while working through something like this.

This does not require talent or a finished product. The value lies in the process itself, in giving attention and care to something outside of the difficulty, even briefly. Small creative acts, repeated over time, can genuinely support wellbeing. There is no wrong way to begin, only a decision to actually start.

If creativity alone does not feel like enough right now, support is available too. Beyond Blue is available on 1300 22 4636, and Lifeline can be reached at any hour on 13 11 14. This can be revisited more than once if the first attempt does not go as hoped.
