For many people, a regular doctor is a familiar and comfortable place to begin talking about how they are really feeling. A GP appointment does not need to be framed as a mental health crisis. It can simply be an honest conversation about a season that has felt hard.

GPs are trained to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and connect people with further support that suits their situation, whether that means a referral to a psychologist, a mental health plan, or simply a follow up appointment to check in again. There is no problem too small to mention.

If you would rather talk to someone today, Lifeline is available on 13 11 14 around the clock, and Beyond Blue offers information and support on 1300 22 4636. Over time, small efforts like this tend to add up to something meaningful. There is no need to have everything figured out before taking this step.
