Help Continues Even After a Service Closes Its Doors

A single service closing for the day, or a waiting list for an appointment, does not mean support has run out. Other options remain available, particularly the crisis lines built to operate continuously, regardless of what else is open. This is one of those situations where showing up matters more than saying the right thing.

If a preferred service is unavailable, it is worth trying another rather than assuming the search for support has ended. Lifeline and the Suicide Call Back Service are both always available, even outside standard hours or during a wait for another appointment. A steady, ordinary approach tends to work better here than a dramatic one.

Lifeline is available on 13 11 14 at any hour, and the Suicide Call Back Service can be reached on 1300 659 467. It is worth trying, even if the first attempt does not go exactly as planned. These small moments, repeated often enough, can shift how safe a conversation feels.
