Creating Quiet Spaces Within a Busy Workplace

Busy workplaces rarely offer a natural moment to pause, which can make it hard for anyone having a difficult day to simply step away and gather themselves. A quiet space, even a small one, sends a clear signal that pausing is acceptable. This is one of those things that gets easier the more often it is practised.

This does not need to be an elaborate wellness room. A quiet corner, an unused meeting space, or simply an understanding that stepping outside for five minutes is normal can all serve the same purpose. What matters is that the option genuinely exists and is used without judgement.

Workplaces can pair this with visible information about further support. Lifeline is available on 13 11 14 at any hour, and Beyond Blue offers support on 1300 22 4636. There is no wrong way to begin, only a decision to actually start. This can be revisited more than once if the first attempt does not go as hoped.
