What a Mental Health Plan From Your GP Involves
Launch library · evergreen read

A mental health plan is a document your GP can prepare with you, outlining your needs and goals, which then allows access to subsidised sessions with a psychologist or other mental health professional. It sounds clinical, but the appointment itself is simply a conversation. This matters just as much in quiet, ordinary moments as in more obvious ones.
Your GP will ask about how you have been feeling and what support might help, then work with you to decide on a plan and a referral that suits your situation. There is no need to have all the answers before the appointment, only a willingness to talk honestly.
If you would like to talk something through before that appointment, Lifeline is available on 13 11 14 at any hour, and Beyond Blue offers information and support on 1300 22 4636. Taking this step does not commit anyone to a particular outcome, only to honesty.
