Many people carry a quiet belief that reaching out for help is something reserved for more serious situations than their own, and that they should be able to manage on their own first. Support services exist precisely for this in between space too. This kind of attention rarely goes to waste, even when its impact is not immediately visible.

You do not need to wait until things feel unbearable to call a helpline or see a GP. Talking things through earlier, while a situation still feels manageable, is often exactly when support can make the biggest difference. A willingness to try, even imperfectly, tends to count for a great deal here.

Lifeline is available on 13 11 14 at any hour, for anything from an ordinary hard day to a genuine crisis, and the Suicide Call Back Service can be reached on 1300 659 467. This is worth doing regardless of how the other person responds at first.
