Schools and families often see different sides of a child's life, and sharing observations between the two can build a much fuller picture of how a child is really doing. Neither perspective alone tells the whole story. It is worth remembering that support like this exists precisely for moments like this one.

A simple conversation with a teacher or school counsellor, sharing what has been noticed at home, can help a school respond appropriately, while updates from school can help parents understand challenges that might not be visible outside the classroom. This is something worth returning to, even after a setback or a difficult stretch.

Kids Helpline supports young people directly on 1800 55 1800, and Lifeline is available to the whole family on 13 11 14. Many people describe this as easier than they expected, once they actually began. This is not a sign of weakness, whatever it might feel like in the moment.
