For many families, community, neighbours, close friends, cultural or religious groups, functions as an extension of the immediate household, offering additional support that eases pressure on any one family member. It helps to remember that reaching out is rarely as difficult as it seems beforehand. Small, imperfect steps still count as genuine progress.

Nurturing these wider connections, through regular participation and genuine relationship building, creates a broader safety net that a family can draw on during harder times, rather than relying solely on those living under the same roof. This is a reasonable, worthwhile thing to try, whatever else is happening at the time.

Lifeline is available on 13 11 14 at any hour, complementing whatever community support a family already has around them. This is true whether the difficulty has just begun or has lingered for a long time. None of this requires getting everything right on the first attempt.
