Exit Conversations That Show Genuine Care

When someone leaves a workplace, exit conversations often focus purely on logistics and feedback about the role. A moment of genuine, personal care within that conversation, asking how they are doing beyond the job itself, can leave a meaningful final impression. This kind of honesty tends to build trust faster than most people expect.

This matters particularly if someone is leaving during a difficult period in their life. A caring word, and information about support that remains available even after their employment ends, shows that the relationship was about more than the work itself. Nobody needs a perfect opening line to make this worthwhile.

Lifeline is available on 13 11 14 at any hour, for anyone, whether currently employed or not, and Beyond Blue offers support on 1300 22 4636. This is a good habit to build, even during periods that feel relatively steady. It is reasonable to expect this to take a little time to feel natural.
