Constant notifications and scrolling can leave very little quiet space in a day, even when nothing urgent is actually happening. A short break from screens can create room to notice how you are actually feeling, rather than being swept along by whatever is on the feed.

This does not need to mean deleting every app or disappearing for a week. It might mean an hour before bed without a phone, or a walk taken without earphones. Small, repeatable breaks tend to be more sustainable than dramatic, short lived digital detoxes. It is worth trying, even if the first attempt does not go exactly as planned.

If time online has started to feel overwhelming rather than restful, it is worth talking to someone. MensLine Australia offers support for men on 1300 78 99 78, and Lifeline can be reached at any hour on 13 11 14. These small moments, repeated often enough, can shift how safe a conversation feels.
